Question Yoshie Onda and Shizuka Arakawa

http://goldenskate.com/forum/showthr...5&pagenumber=1

^^ Read the thread above. They have an article about Yoshie Onda moving to the U.S. to train with an American Coach...doesn't say who. They also said that Yoshie hopes she can improve her technical skills more...not artistic? If you read further into the thread, they say that Shizuka Arakawa is working with Maya and TT!! This is just beyond me....and the skaters at the Onyx Ice Arena say that they dont see Shizuka around anymore, so they do think she's switched coaches...help please? can anyone confirm?

If it is true, than I'm not sure if its a good idea to switch coaches so close to Worlds but then again, Sasha was able to put out 2 stellar programs after switching to Robin only a week before. I thought Shizuka was doing great with Richard, and her artistry was really improving. But then again, Shizuka has her techincal skills down, so maybe TT can help her with that.

Don't have access to the article, but if this is true, I think that this COULD be a bad decision for both ladies. Yoshie needs artistic help, period. Her technical skills are fine, except for inconsistencies here and there. Though her artistry is steadily improving, it is in no way up to the standards set by the top ladies. She should be the one working with TT, not Shizuka. IMO, Shizuka and Richard are a great pair. There was definitely improvement in Shizuka's skating after her time with Richard and I hope the partnership continues. They may just be looking to TT for help in certain areas (choreo or artistry, etc.). Even without TT's help, I think Shizuka's doing fine. She's done so well in competitions this season. Both her techincal and artistic marks were stellar so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

But if Tatiana is going to work with Shiuzka, what about Sasha?

what about sasha? that's not her coach anymore so technically it doesn't even matter.

I really don't know the cause of the split, but TT said that she was going to move back to Russia and coach Russian skaters (because "great U.S. skaters should be coached by great U.S. coaches"). Now, TT is going to work with a Japanese skater in the States? I love Sasha and Robin working together, but I'm still confused about the whole Sasha/TT situation. I was just saying that IF Shizuka was going to work full-time with TT (I can't read the article and it may not be reliable, but IF), then I would wonder about the situation with her and Sasha - why they split, the REAL reason. I honestly don't care if Sasha works with TT again, but I was just wondering, that's all.

Here is a link from SkatingInc that says Shizaku is working with Maya NOT TT.

http://www.skateforum.com/DesktopDef...st&PostID=8759

Could be she is working with Maya, or it is temporary, or she is just choreographing a program...didn't Sasha first start with TT when she went to work with her on some choreography?? Also Michelle Kwan did the same thing...doesn't necessarily mean Shizaku has moved to work with Maya or TT. However I wouldn't be surprised....it would be very hard for Richard to work with two top level ladies skaters.....he would almost have to give up Jenny or Shizaku and I don't see him giving up an American skater.

OK, yeah I thought you were talking about it in a sense of "if TT is doing somethin with Shizuka, than she can't with Sasha." I see what you mean now. Her staying WOULD be fishy but i wouldn't really put it past her.

My sources tell me that TT IS moving back to Moscow and that she is currently negotiating for ice and looking at some new students. She's already got a house there too AFAIK.

Wow, thanks! I am surprised about why Shizuka left Richard in the first place...she was having a stellar season so far, and her artistry was improving tremendously. They seemed to be a really good team, too. Maybe it was too much for Richard, handling 2 Ladies elite skaters...? I hope we hear more info at Worlds

What happened to her adopted family too if she moved? Anyclue who she is staying with now? Wishing Shizuka the best in the future!

I'm a bit surprised if Shizuka left Richard because it seems this year her technical package really came together. I'm more of the opinion that they may be helping her polish up the presentation a bit before Worlds and that she'll be going back for more hands on with Richard within the week or so. I'd see her going to TT as a mistake, while she needs to shine in her presentation, if her technical suffers, she'll take a hit in both marks. Presentation can be learned but you need a good technician first and foremost.

With Richard coaching both Jenny and Shizuka and them both going to Worlds it might be a bit hard. I think TT is just consulting like she does for a lot of skaters in helping them with their presentation for a few weeks. We'll have to see at Worlds.
