Does anyone else think Katy's style is a lot Tara's? This was the first year I got to see her skate and I was reminded of Tara and loved it! I think she's great and I can't wait to see how she does in the future!

I heard of a young skater a few years a go who was Novice champion or summat and she idolized Tara. Maybe that's the same person.

Negative, at least I think so. I'm pretty sure Katy doens't "idolize" Tara. She won silver at the Novice level 2 years ago, and silver at the Junior level last year though...

I don't see it at all.

She looks like Tara, but doesn't have nearly as much expression. (For all Tara was always accused of not having enough, I think she had more than the majority of skaters!) Still, she's got time to work on that.

I don't think her style is like Tara's. Both of them have their own style.

KAty has worked with Tara's Sugerland coach, Megan Faulkner. So, that could be where it comes from.
I wish she'd get better stretch.

Yeah, I know. Her spirals, at the moment, are not exactly attractive looking. And they didn't use the sky-cam on her...
She's got alot of energy at fast-rotating jumps, but she neeeeeds to work on her expression.

Last night she didn't look like the same skater that I'v known. Last year I think she had more stretch. Her spirals are not the best and her catch foot move didn't show that much flexibility but she has plenty of time to improve. She was the youngest skater that competed.

YES, she not only skates like Tara, but she looks like Tara. I think it's so strange because she lives in Sugarland too. I like Katy because she does have personality and lots of speed which also reminds me of Tara. Tara's artistry wasn't that evident when she was 14, but she had such an awesome personality that really sold her programs. I can tell that Katy has that "it" too. It's that special something that makes you watch a skater even when they aren't that artistic like Tara and Irina. Neither of them started out as artistic skaters, but both of them developed it and it does seem to be easier to have the technical ability and learn the artistic rather then the opposite way.
Every skater has to have a disasterous skate. Hopefully, Katy got her bad skate out of the way on Saturday night. I do think she will be one of those girls competing for that third spot for the Olympics a year from now.

Katy skated a clean short but had a little trouble holding on to the 3flip - she fought for the landing and remained on one foot.

You know, when you watch skating for so long, you tend to think some skaters remind you of others. I thought Katy did make me think of Tara, the Tara of 1996. Both have this "youthful exuberance" (once read that description of young Tara and thought it fight perfectly!). As for skating styles, fast rotation and not a lot of height on jumps and definately needs to stretch out her positions more, which I'm sure will come with experience. Those of you who have seen Tara skate post 1998 know what a mature, artistic skater she became. Hopefully Katy will be able to head in that direction as well.
O/T, but I always thought Bebe reminds me of young Michelle, well, Michelle from 1996. All this spunk and energetic skating styles. Almost makes you exhausted after watching her skate. I can totally see Bebe skating to "Salome" and "Romanza". And I actually like when she does the I-spin, seems to fit her skating style.
I didn't get to see Alissa on TV, was really hoping to! But she kinda takes after Sasha's style a bit. Soft skater, beautiful positions, flexible, limber back. Needs to hold out those positions longer though.
Emily is so much like her sister in some ways-beautiful laybacks for one! Nice 2axel. But I found her more graceful in her subtle moves, like arm positioning for example.
The 1st time I saw Kimmie skate in the exhibition 2 years ago as Novice Champion, I thought she seemed like Michelle pre-1996- all about the jumps, great edges and lots of energy out there, but really needed to become more polished and finished. She's really come a long way, and can only get better!
Seems like we have more "jumping beans" than "baby ballerenias" this time around. Just like Michelle did, I expect them to develop and mature with time and become more artiststic. I think this new crop of kids are going to be very exciting to see develop!

Emily looks like her sister as well! She has a much nicer spiral though - great extension!

I agree Emily looks so much like Sarah but I think her skating is more graceful and less sloppy than Sarah's.

I agree. I saw Emily skate when she was a little girl against my friends and stuff, and to tell you the truth..I didn't think she would ever make it far..but she has grown a lot and in a few years she could be better than her sister's. Emily looks a lot like her sister and she shares the same talent for figure skating. I think Emily has improved a lot and is showing a more graceful side. We'll see how Emily turns out, but she's on the right track right now.
