Dick made that comment on Sasha's triple lutz in her 2003 Nationals long program (rach) with his tone implying that it was really really good and perhaps a bit unusual, and I'm not sure what he meant.. aren't you supposed to complete the revolution in the air? I mean, you can't land and then complete the revolution, can you?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question... im really not good with anything about jumps.

I remember him sayings "she completes the rotation in the air and then lands light as a feather" during her 02 Nats exhibition. At first I was just like well duh , but I think he means that the jump was fully roatated and landed properly, rather than being cheated or over rotated.

And sometimes you have jumps so big that people do finish the rotation well before they need to land. Like when some men do 3 toes when they intended to do a 4 toe. It has that popped look to it because it seems like there's enough time to add an extra revolution.

Hum...I don't think youc an do that. First i tought: yes that happen when you cheat a jump but a just realize that you don't ''land'' the jump and complete the rotation on the ice, you touch the ice then complete the rotation and then land the jump.!

If you were to land them turn, it would be becauser your shoulders are round another rotation.
Because if you cheat a jump, you turn on the ice before the free leg comes out.

I remember that quote. It was in reference to Sasha completing her revolutions before starting to come down to land. I believe most skaters use the entire jump to complete the revolutions while Sasha, at that time, completed her revolutions at the "top" of the jump. I think he also likes skaters who jump all the way up and then start to spin.

IMHO there are more than a few skaters who do underrotate their 3 jumps pretty often...I think that's what Dick was talking about, that Sasha rarely does that, her error is the opposite if any.

Yeah, that's what I mean.

He made this comment with Joubert too. Like he completed the revs. in the air and then was able to open a little bit since he had room coming down. That's what big jumps usually look like. I think he was infering that and it wasn't cheated.
