I was just reading an article in the other thread about Katy Taylor not having a triple toe because she learned it incorrectly and has had trouble correcting it. I haven't read the USFSA's rules and regulations for tests very clearly, but I don't see anything anywhere about a triple toe loop (although there are things about doubles)... so my stupid question is, could you go through a skating career without a triple toe loop?

For example, on the site it says this:

* At least four different double or triple jumps, one of which must be a double Lutz. If the skater elects to perform triple jumps, only one may be repeated in combinations or jump sequences.

but nothing about toe loops...

Sorry, I realize this is probably a really stupid question :o

I've heard it's either her loop or her toe loop. I think she could probably survive a season or two without one jump. Naomi Nari Nam deservedly took silver at nationals in 99, and she had no triple lutz. Of course with a layback like that and that much speed a lutz jump was the last thing on my mind during that program. In the long run though it would be necessary for her to compete technically with top skaters.

Naomi had a lutz the following season though and hadn't been a senior all that long. It's not like she doesn't do one b/c it's inconsistent, she just didn't have it ready yet. She was only 13.

Elena Liashenko has ommited the loop jump enough times because she can't do one. Doesn't even practice it. ANd if she does go for it, she falls. I think Angela Nikidinov has a jump she doesn't do too(could be wrong about that one though).

i think the rules are like that because they can't ask you to do all the triples when you compete if the test requirements don't even require you to do a double axel. (which seems kind of wrong to me, but... )

but yeah, there are a lot of skaters who have a jump that just doesn't work for them. i'm sure katy will get her triple toe with time. i'd even bet that she has it when nationals rolls around next season.

Yeah I train at the same rink as Katy and she is working on it..it looks pretty solid. But she still says she hates it ;) Fortunantely for Katy, the toe-loop is the easiest jump AND her nemisis jump...so even if she *did* have it consistent it wouldn't be that much of a biggie because it doesn't rack up a lot of points nor is it impressive in combo. (unless it's a 3/3). I'm glad that it's the toe she has trouble on, not the lutz.
