Just to continue discussion from the old forum. Her new program will be La Traviata.

I'm pretty sure it's an Italian opera, not french. We had to watch it for band :( after awhile the subtitles got boring...

I hope she can do something with this music. Last year's Tosca didn't really suit her, IMHO... most of the program looked forced. I think though, that Irina should follow in Sasha's footsteps and get a new choreographer. After awhile, much like Michelle Kwan, all of her programs start to look eerily similar, both jump-wise, and layout-wise.

ITA, Andria

I want to see her work with Chris Dean, Grosha Sur, or Lee Ann Miller :)

Yeah I wasn't too thrilled with her Tosca program either...

I loved TOSCA. I thought Irina's interpretation was absolutely brilliant. And I am thrilled to see that she will be skating to LA TRAVIATA. Does anyone know who will be doing the choreography?

I have never heard of that piece of music before, but I hope its not real pretty and flowy cause no offence to all her fans or her she doesn't skate very well to that kind of music. Personally I think Irina gets way too much international respect just cause she had one or two performances where she actually skated well. I hope I haven't offended anyone, thats just the way I feel.

I'm not really an Irina fan (by fan I mean someone knows a lot, if not everything, about her ;)), but I really enjoy the technicality she has in her programs. Artistically I think she could use a little work. I'm anxious to see what this program will be like!

Ditto. Irina is by far not one of my favorite skaters, but if she has new music it might really help, and I'd love to watch her! I did think she did deserve to win Worlds 2002 though... she was really good there.

:D This is a great choice for Irina! She did such a wonderful job with Tosca, so I can't wait to see what she does with this music. Every year she just gets better and better. I can't wait to see her skate!!

AxelAnnie,
Can't think of her name off-hand, but from what I understand "La Traviata" will be choreographed by Irina's old choreographer, the woman who choreographed "Don Quixote" and most of Irina's other competitive LPs. "Tosca" was choreographed by the director of choreography for the Milan Opera House, whose name also escapes me (it is almost 3am and I'm trying to post for the first time on this groovy new site;)). I can find out both choreographers' names if you want. I liked "Tosca" too, but I didn't think Irina was really able to make it her own until Worlds. I'm glad she's going back to her original main choreographer. The choreographer for "Tosca" gave, I think, Irina a lot of dramatic motivation but I'm not sure how well his/her choreographer worked in terms of skating.

BTW, in case anyone is REALLY interested in the opera "La Traviata" (and I'm sure there are legions;)), Franco Zefferelli directed an absolutely beautiful film version of "La Traviata" in 1984, or thereabouts. I know it's on video, though it may be hard to find at your local "Blockbuster."

Okay, let's see if this post gets posted.

that's probably the one we saw...it was the first time I saw an opera so I probably didn't appreciate it much. But from what I can remember, it had some really cool music that I think Irina can skate well to.
