Forgive me If I may come off ignorant or hatefull, but It seems that the way skating has actually been judge vs. how It's suppose to be judge is a little off. How so you ask?
OK, 50% of the skater's score is based on Technical elements. And that includes the jumps, spins, footwork, etc. The rest is of course the Presentation, which I believe is just the aesthetic of the program.
However, we Know that Sasha Cohen is about a 5.8 or 5.9 on presentation. It's the technical score that doesn't seem clear with me, because for example at the Worlds last week, many of the skaters, Elena, Fumia, and someone like Irina (I know she wasnt' there) have inadequete spins, spirals, footwork compared to Sasha. Sasha's spins/footwork are like a 5.8 or 5.9... The other girls I mentioned are like a 5.4 to 5.6. So IF technical scoring is based on not just jumps but these other elements, why do these other girls score just as high in technical as Sasha. I know Sasha fell on a jump or two compared to, for example Elena, who had very good jumps. But doing very good on jumps but not good on your spins/footwork, shouldn't they get marked down on their technical score for that. I mean she got a 5.8 overall on her technical score, which obviously shows she was not marked down for her spins and stuff. So is technical marks, are they just all based on the jumps? DOes anyone understand what I'm saying?
I think Sasha should of taken second place. Her Presentation was a worth a 5.9, and her technical marks I think was worth a 5.6 or 5.7, because she did make a few mistakes, but her other elements were very superior. Unless your jumps count for like 80 percent of your technical marks or something.
And Elenas Free Program, the presentation was not good. It was slow for one thing. I would of given her for presentation a 5.5 or 5.6... I dont know how she got a 5.9. As for technical, probably a 5.6, because yea she nailed her jumps and they were difficult, but the rest of the technical skate sucked.
