So, I need to get this all out....it was absolutely freakin' amazing! I met Brian Joubert :) He was at the top of the arena and I ran up the steps so fast and said "Bonjour" to him and he said "Hello" but then he had to go :( But I didn't really mind because he was so gorgeous in real life. He actually went and sat a couple of blocks away from us during the ladies program (though you could tell he was a bit annoyed after his LP, the only person he clapped for was Candice Dieder and he left early.) Also, Megan Duhamel, Craig Buntin and Patrick Chan went and sat really high up at the back, quite near us for the ice dance/ladies LP, which was cool, they looked really friendly. Also, in the restaurant we had lunch in on Sunday, Emily Hughes was sitting about 3 tables away from us with her coach! It was very, very exciting to see her there.

So, fan girl stories out the way, the skating itself was great. My favourite was Brian, despite the mistakes (you can see our "Go Brian" banner for him at 3.45 here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu50lm-5QxM&feature=related)) We also had a "Sinead + John" banner, but I've yet to see it, though they definitely did when they came out to warmup, they were waving at us :) My other favourites were Joannie, Patrick Chan, Vanessa Crone & Paul Poitier, S/S and D/S. They were all absolutely incredible.

The gala was also really good, we were in the 6th row, which was awesome, though it was kind of scary when Patrick Chan kicked the boards and fell. They released loads of balloons at the end of the exhibition, I brought one home on the Eurostar, which wasn't easy.

My favourite part, though, had to be watching all the behind-the-scenes stuff that you don't get on TV. Like Caroline Zhang being shown how to stand on the podium by her coach just before she went on, and then having a picture taking with her mum and doing bunny ears on her, which was funny. I went right down the front during the warmup, and watched Bebe Lian warming up next to the kiss and cry, she was singing along to the music (Suddenly I See) which was cute.

This has been a big old ramble, and not really thread-worthy, but all in all I should say it was the best weekend of my life :] Pictures to follow.

Oh my, you actually met Brian? I'm very pleased for you (and a little jealous... yes). It sounds like you had an absolutely fantastic time, I can't wait for the photographs!

Poor Patrick. It's horrible to fell because of the boards.
With my mum, we kept 3 balloons  Not very easy to transport when you take the metro and the train, and people watch you like that  But I'm happy with my balloons, it's written Trophée E. Bompard on it. I have also kept one from last year

Oh, and it's so cool that you met Brian, you are very lucky.

Wow! It sounds really a lot of fun! I really want to go to a real top notch senior figure skating competition like TEB some day... For a long time I was considering going to Paris. If Ashley would have been in it, I would have gone without a doubt! But I couldn't find anyone amongst friends or family who wanted to join me, so I thought it would have been awkward going to Paris (a city that I'm not at all familiar with) on my own. If only there would be a GP in London!
But I would have liked to go for all the things you described; seeing famous skaters in real life, watching the backstage stuff, catching Gala balloons ;). Thanks for the post, it was fun to read!

wow Kate, sounds like you had a great time!
The backstage things sound really interesting to watch, let alone the skating itself. Did you go with your mum?

If only there would be a GP in London!

Yes Please ;)

Sorry I just bumped my own thread, but I don't think anyone will mind since I only just got my pictures!!!

And....they're absolutely awful. Seriously terrible. So be prepared. I have loads more, but most of them are blurred due to a) the rubbishness of my camera and b) the speed they skate. Most pictures are from the warm-ups, because during the warm-ups I went right down to the boards to take pictures :)

Me waiting for the exhibition to start. (http://i36.tinypic.com/4i06kw.jpg) We were super-near the ice, as you can tell, which was highly exciting.

I'm going to put my videos on YouTube, and I'm also in the process of lightening up a picture where you can see how near Brian was sitting to us during the Ladies LP (yes, it's pretty sad ) and so I'll post them here when it's done.

Thanks for posting them anyway. See, what I do is take about 1000 pictures (that is not an exaggeration) and then at least 100 turn out pretty well, and then I just pretend like I'm good. I was hoping to buy a DSLR for Nationals but that is NOT happening. So I'll be fighting the auto-focus on my Fujifilm F30 as always.

P.S.: You're very cute.
