Watch this clip. Another 12-year-old talent who can do 'pearl' spin, and has mastered 5 different triples...

Wow, thats a very talented little lady. Her jumps still need some work, but she has a ton of potential, and she's very pleasant to watch. She really seems to feel and understand her music. It will be interesting to see how she develops. I think she has the best biellman position and y-spin position I've ever seen.

Her spins are fast, but not nearly as gorgeous as Caroline's.

Wow, I never thought I would be defending Caroline.. haha.

But she is a pretty skater.

Wow, so talented, and she's not even a teenager yet! Her spins are so fast and flexible - I'm completely blown away! She also covers a wide area of the rink. Her artistry perhaps needs to be developed a little bit more but other than that, she appears to have most aspects sorted.

Bendy, cute little thing. I wonder what will happen when she gets older and she's no longer that elastic...same with Caroline.

Yeah, I think when her body starts maturing shes gonna have a harder time fixing and catching up on jump technique and she'll lose her flexibility a little. but thats really cool :)

Well Sasha was able to maintain her high level of flexibility throughout her career, so I don't see why Caroline or anyone else wouldn't. I mean I know it is true that you tend to be less flexible when you're older, but if you continue to stretch and work at it, you can stay that flexible.

Anyway, she's pretty good. Her spins are nice, especially her camel. I'm not a big fan of her doing Caroline's Pearl though. Spirals are good too but jumps could use work. I think China really needs strong singles skaters at this point.

I think it's more how sound they stay throughout the years. Sasha dealt with back problems, and later on, groin injuries. True, most skaters probably have their own ailments to deal with, but there have been studies to show with extreme flexibility, you tend to have more injuries. Something about the damge of concussion on hyper-extended joints.

That and as you get older your spine matures, so she and Caroline will NOT be as flexible in their back anymore once they hit 18.

I agree! I think that Caroline does do it better though, with more control.

She's well-rounded with good jumps, great artistry and spins. The future of figure skating will be very interesting..

That can be true, and also I think it has a lot to do with how a lot of these tiny little girls can bend into any shape and are fast and high jumpers because they don't weigh anything. They have almost no muscle. And that's when a lot of injuries occur, is very flexible people who don't have the strength to balance it. A lot of times for example (a little different from the flexibility thing though), all the skaters who have like re-occuring knee problems, it happens because they're pounding these jumps and their knee is what's continually taking all the pressure because their leg muscles aren't strong enough. It's difficult sometimes though because oiften the stronger you get, the tighter the muscles are (meaning they are also less flexible).

Anyway, this girl is talented, I was not overly impressed as she does have numerous things to smooth out but she's young and I hope she keeps skating into the future :)

It puzzles me how she can be so flexible, but she has an icky layback position. That will improve, I'm sure.

It must suck when other people start doing your trademark move, don't you think? But that's kind of how figure skating works...people invent moves and they eventually become must-do's in everyone's repetoire.

Caroline didn't invent the move. Some younger girl was doing it before her - it may have been this girl, actually, as the name sounds familiar - but Caroline gained fame with it first so it's her signature move.

This girls skating looks nice for her age. She has things to improve just like every other skater does but I think that she does have a good start.

Way back when, Nathalie Kreig also used the pearl position:

The posistions she can get into in her layback spin at 2:13, and combo spin at 2:55 are out of this world, pretty amazing!

Huh, really? Because in fluffs and interviews and commentaries about Caroline, it all sounds like Caroline did invent it.

Of course it'll sound like Caroline did because she's USFSA's new little star.

Looks like Nathalie Kreig did. Kind of like Tamara Moskvina was the first to do a Biellmann but Denise Biellmann popularized it...

What Lanie said...I think part of the problem is others HAVE done certain positions, but the elite, current skater to include that position in each program gets accredited with either inventing (ike Caroline and the Pearl Spin, or Denise and the Beillmann) or with popularizing it (like Sasha and the I-spin). There haven't been very many brand new moves. More like, old moves with a new, personalized to it.

How many times has the original move feature actually been awarded under COP? I recall one US lady, a junior, received credit for a glude and a spin last season, that was like in a failed shoot the duck position. Other than that, I have no idea. Anyone?

Aww she's cute and pretty sophisticated for only 12 years old! It will be interesting to see how she develops.:)
