With the increasing popularity of sites like Youtube and Fsvids and the fact that other countries are broadcasting a lot of skating (CCTV) we are able to see many skaters that we wouldn't otherwise be able to see. I have greatly enjoyed discovering new potential favorite skaters the past few years as we are now even able to find videos from the Junior Grand Prix.

This thread is about those up-and-coming or obscure skaters that you have discovered that we may not know about. Link to a youtube video or try to convince us to "jump on their bandwagon". Who knows you might discover new favorites.

Some of mine...
Davis and White USA ice dance: http://youtube.com/watch?v=NNWEM2Sku98 this is their free dance from NHK this year. They were bronze medalists at Junior Worlds this year and boy do they have a bright future.

Patrick Chan CAN: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4Wjme9ni1VA LP at TEB, this kid has so much musicality!

Arina Martinova RUS: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iraTuFHYBlQ
I think she has so much talent and potential. She's different from other Russian skaters we've seen--she has more musicality and grace that Slutskaya, softer knees that Butyrskaya, and the best extension of any Russian lady singles skater.

Alexander "Sasha" Uspenski (no I'm not kidding - he goes by Sasha)

Danse Macabre (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eGuXMBO8pWc) @ a Gala
2004 JPGF Exhibition (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ezxu4tbT5MA)
2006 NHK SP (http://youtube.com/watch?v=0Rqr03wEUNQ&mode=related&search=)
2006 Cup of China LP (http://youtube.com/watch?v=KCUbPd8TuY0&mode=related&search=)

He has a face like Joubert and a boo-tay like Johnny Weir  But the Danse Macabre is one of my favourite things ever. I hate his hair this season, though :-\

Arina is lovely, and I see a lot of potential in her. She does need some more polish in general, although I think that will come in time. However, her jumps are definatly a concern. She had trouble with all three jumps in the SP, and it seems to me like she needs more speed and power into her jumps.

I like Uspenski a lot as well. He may become the next dominant Russian male skater. He seems to have the "it" factor.

In countries like France, and other countries in Europe, Sasha is also a boy's name. ;)

Uspinski is fabulous -- and aside from being very artistic, what great jump technique, and difficult entries so that you don't see the jump coming! Fabulous skater!! His jumps are light like Kulik and solid landings like Yagudin's!

But does he have a quad?

Arina reminds me of Volchkova only a lot better...what's with her camel spin? She needs to work on that.

Thanks so much for posting!

I have no idea if he has a quad or not. If not, I hope he gets one soon. I love everything about him ^_^

Oh gosh Emily, only you could turn a thread about up-and-coming skaters into a discussion about Johnny Weir's ass :p Hehe.

He's not bad... He has okay artistry. The jumps need work, though. His footwork was kind of sloppy. But he is only 15... Hopefully he'll fix up the things he needs to work on as he gets older.

He's pretty good! He has nice artistry and most of his jumps looked good too. The spins and footwork were okay. His Danse Macabre was great! Looking forwards to seeing him again.

Check out Patrick Chan's NHK LP. While it has more jump mistakes I think that his sense of timing is better than at TEB. Sure he has areas to improve but what I am most impressed with his ability to perform intricate and mature choreography (check out his SP from this year) and how he listens and expresses the music. Musicality is a part of artistry and while overall his artistry can improve, I believe that he has the most essential element, that is that ability to understand music and to express it through his skating.
