Why did they change the name of a long program to a free skate??

It hasn't changed. Free Skate is just another word for LP.

I'll always prefer the name long program to the name free skate.

Oooh ok Thanks, I was getting really confused.
Why have two names? Kinda stupid. :rolleyes:

I like long program better also.

Long program is the older name for free skate. The meaning is the same. Don't know why it was changed.

Maybe to reflect the fact that the free skate doesn't have required elements, in contrast to the short program.
