If you are in the Chicago area, don't forget Sarah  will be at the Chicago Skatefest this Sunday. (In Crystal Lake IL.) Hours are 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
It is too late to register for lessons, but if you just want to hang out, take pictures, or get her autograph, you can WALK IN at any time. :)

It's funny, I just noticed that this was the exact same date as Sasha's SkateFest last year. Oh well....I broke rule number one which is to plan for the unexpected. Stuff happened and I got there way late. It was supposed to go from 1:00-4:00 and I got there at about 3:00. Luckily it went overtime to about 4:30. I figured that the autograph line was still to come. Last year, they saved that for last, but this year they had it first, so I missed it.
The place was packed. It has a big parking lot, and it was not only full, but there were cars on both sides of the road leading up to it for about a half a block. Like last year almost everyone had a smile on their face. We were all having a real good time. Then the skaters took the ice. There had to be 120 of them - about 118 girls and two little guys. I'm telling you...those two were outnumbered! The coaches told the skaters to, "Round up over here" or something and I heard a roar of skate blades coming to a stop all at once. It was a sound that I've never heard before. It sounded like the ocean waves in "Blue Crush". All of those skate blades made such a HUGE sound.
A few minutes later the announcer: "Please welcome the 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist, Sarah Hughes!" She took the ice with a big round of applause. She dealt with the skaters in 4 different groups, and as time went on she hardly did any skating at all. She mostly just stood there talking to them. She would instruct them on something, and they would try it out. She did a spiral, but not too much else. This isn't a criticism or anything, but last year Sasha exploded in to 10 or 12 elements, here and there as the day progressed. They did a big pose for every group, with Sarah in the middle. They also had a raffle for the skaters, with at least three prizes. Each skater would get the prize, and then pose for a picture with Sarah. The last prize went to a little girl, who was probably about six, and she was as cute as a button. When she skated out to pose with Sarah, the whole audience let out a big, loud, "awwww".
As soon as I walked out of the Seven Bridges Ice Arena last year, the question I had was who will it be next year? It took ten and a half months to find that one out. Walking out of the Crystal Ice House this year I had the damndest feeling that next year it might be Michelle Kwan. One thing is for certain: Just like Sasha, Sarah is one classy lady, and a perfect role model for every kid out there. If only all sports figures would have what those two have.

Awww, great review, Dave! Do you have any pictures to share? Anyways, I'm glad you could go. I would've gone to the Houston one but I live about an hour away and I was busy on Saturday...And I'm not as eager to see Sarah as Sasha ;)

Hey Sasha-Sarah-Fans. Here are the pics of Sarah  . I still need a digital camera. Something gets lost when you have them done from analog to digital. I have some pretty good shots though. Just like I did with Sasha, I shot one good Paparatzi of her. I felt guilty both times. I don't know how those people live with themselves. ;)
Thanks for your interest everyone. :)
Enjoy!
